15 October 2003 Status at The Aquatic Hillcrest

Headline: On Hold until Friday

Rob Clancy called last night and we straightened out the CB3 part number and he is re-ordering it.

We took data at 0430 to pass the FA steps of 10A and 10B.  It was interesting the the Alps were clearly visible on the display, which has not been observed before now at this site.

We met with the entire team this morning and discussed how to proceed.  We agreed to take more target of opportunity data this morning and meet again this afternoon.  Everyone wants to keep the radar running.  As we will return to the USA Saturday, there may be another flight test attempt on Friday, if we have some reason to think performance will improve.  Otherwise, we must find another solution in order to keep the radar on.  I suggested that perhaps the German waiver system would accommodate them accepting the radar with the outstanding flight test if there were an obligation from LMCO to perform a successful flight test some time during the warranty period.  Barz indicated "This is not possible."

ToO data was taken in the morning and analyzed.  We have officially informed the BWB that we do not understand the performance of the flights that they feel did not pass the P(d) test, and requested an additional flight test on the back up day, Friday.  This was arranged immediately by Captain Haan, and Mission 3 (FL 080) will be repeated Friday at 0815 and Mission 4 (FL 410) will be repeated at noon.
